DPI Quarterly Updates


The DPI Updates are part of the World Language Webinar Series designed for World Language Leaders at districts or Local Education Agencies (LEAs), Charter Schools, and other educational organizations. They will be broadcast quarterly on 2nd Tuesdays from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Contact hours to accumulate for a CEU can be earned by those who participate in the broadcast.

The DPI Quarterly Updates will include:
  • information relevant to all World Language programs,
  • details for specific programs (ex. Classical Languages, Dual & Heritage, Modern Languages), and
  • information to be shared with World Language teachers on topics such as assessing proficiency, course codes, the Analysis of Student Work (ASW) process, implementing the World Language Essential Standards, etc.

All materials such as the PowerPoint slide set, along with a recording of the broadcast, will be posted on the Professional Development wikipage approximately 1 week following the webinar.

All schools are encouraged to have at least one World Language educator attend these webinars so that information can be shared locally. District and charter coordinators, department heads, lead teachers and others can register for the webinar by submitting a registration form for each of the 2016 - 2017 broadcast dates.

WLES Implementation Webinars


The World Language Essential Standards (WLES) Webinars are part of the World Language Webinar Series designed for World Language Educators implementing our state’s standards in their classrooms. They will be broadcast on 4th Tuesdays from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. in months where there is not a DPI Quarterly Update webinar

Each of the WLES Implementation webinars will focus on a topic related to implementing our state’s standards more effectively, such as reflecting on student work from an Essential Standard or focusing on a particular Strand.

Here is a tentative schedule:
  • October 25 - Overview of Structure: Weaving Together All of the Strands and Standards
  • November 22 - Essential Standard #1: Interpersonal Communication
  • January 24 - Essential Standard #2: Interpretive Communication
  • February 28 - Essential Standard #4: Culture
  • April 25 - Essential Standard #3: Presentational Communication

Counselor Advising and Scheduling Tips (CAST) for World Languages
This webinar-style module was created with School Counseling to guide K-12 school counselors with:
  • Understanding World Language Essential Standards programs and course options,
  • Utilizing updated and correct course codes,
  • Implementing scheduling best practices, and
  • Advising students on lifelong language learning.
