Rolling Deadline (Apply 2 months prior)
SCOLT Professional Development Outreach Grant Funding
The Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT), which includes North Carolina and other states and territories in the Southeast, has an initiative to make Teachers of the Year (TOY) available to provide professional development for other language teachers in their states who cannot get to conferences. The TOY award recognizes unique skills, and this fund provides a practical way to share such skills and to showcase our TOYs and provide leadership development for them. In addition it is designed to provide an opportunity for publicity and world language advocacy.
Grant funds are to be used to enable a state's Teacher of the Year to provide professional development in schools or school districts in his/her state for one year from notification of funding. The SCOLT nominee for the ACTFL award can receive an extra year of eligibility.
For North Carolina's most recent TOY, please see the FLANC Scholarship and Awards webpage: http://www.flanc.org/membership-benefits/scholarships-and-awards
For information about the SCOLT TOY and nominee to the national ACTFL award, go to the SCOLT Teacher of the Year webpage: http://www.scolt.org/index.php/awards/teacher-of-the-year
Funds will be made available on a competitive basis from the SCOLT Professional Development Fund through an online application. Amounts may vary, but it is suggested that up to $150.00 be provided for each PD day to cover mileage (at 14¢ per mile), a substitute (if necessary) and possibly a small stipend. Up to two days per state could be funded at this rate.
Applications are to be submitted by school districts or a state language organization, including single language organizations or private school organizations. That body will then be responsible for managing the project.
Applications are rolling, but must be submitted at least two months prior to the professional development date. Also, there is a limited amount of funds each year so the amount of awards given is based on available funds.
Please see the online application here: https://scoltconf.wufoo.com/forms/scolt-professional-development-outreach-fund/
